Honda has unveiled a peek at its sleek, tech-heavy revamp of the aging Acura RL luxury sedan. Although it has technically been released as a concept, the manufacturers promise the new RL will adhere closely to the RLX concept's impressive specs. They are calling it a Sport Hybrid, an AWD car with a 3.5-liter V6 coupled with three electric motors pounding out 370 ponies—so it goes both mean and green. The company promises 30 mpg city/30 highway as well—compare that to the 2012 RL's 17/24!

Outside, they’re keeping it fairly demure, except for the footwear: The rims on the 20-inch forged aluminum tires are either distinctive or garish, depending of your point of view. The “jewel eye” headlamps feature 8 smaller LED bulbs attractively aligned and covered with a reflective optical lens to offer precision in illumination. The Acura badge, centered on the tasteful grille, reminds one of the Star Trek Federation logo.

Size-wise, the new RL should be about 2 inches shorter in the front and 2 inches longer in the wheelbase than the old version. Weighing in at just 4,000 pounds, its steel-and-aluminum frame promises to give it superior handling. The model will have 3 modes: gas-only, electric-only and hybrid mode, which showcases its new AWD system.
